Ten Top Tips on Keeping Your Yard Tidy
- Tidy up as you go alone. If you leave a trail behind you are heading into disaster. The principle should be, to try not to let it get very dirty in the first place.
- Get rid of any rubbish e.g. boxes, empty containers broken items etc anything items that are not being used. Have a system with your rubbish so bins etc. are emptied regularly.
- Allow time at the end of each day to finish up and leave your yard clean and ready for the next day. Then once a week do a more thorough clean.
- Create a home for everything. By this, I mean an exact home. So you have places and hooks for every item in your yard and you and everyone else puts everything back where they belong.
- Where you pick out your horses feet have a hoof pick and skip bucket (both preferably hanging up) to hand to collect the mud. Have a pair of yard gloves with your skip bucket so you can protect your hands.
- Where you keep your brooms have a good sized Wheelbarrow and or pooh scoop available. In addition, have a dustpan and brush here as well.
- If you have a large yard you may well need several brooms and wheelbarrows situated in different places so you can clear up any droppings quickly.
- Have suitable cleaning equipment. For example if you have a large area to keep clean, have wide broom heads.
- Invest in a backpack leaf blower or a hand held one. The one you choose will depend on the size of your yard. These are invaluable tools for any yard, big or small and will save you many hours of sweeping up. Expensive but you will never look back!
- If you treat yourself to a lovely clean yard you will be helping yourself and so indirectly helping your horses.
Invest in the kit, if they are close to hand you will use them, if not, you probably won't!
(I personally prefer the backpack ones, as they are so much better for your back.)

So it is one of my many passions.
