What is Traumeel...
It is an outstanding combination homeopathic remedy that can be used for a multitude of injuries. It can be used on your horses, you and many other animals (dogs cats etc).
All of its ingredients(and there are many) act together on any inflammatory response/inflammation that occurs at and around the site of injury.
It can be used for for just about any 'everyday' injury or accident as a first aid treatment, irrespective of further medication.

A brief summary on Inflammation

Horse - Single dose is 5-6 tablets, to be given 3 times a day
Traumeel Drops for Horses
Horse - Single dose is 20-30 drops to be given 3 times a day. Dilute with Water.
If necessary, depending on the severity of the injury the above dose can be repeated after 24 hours.
For long term treatment of chronic affections the indicated single dosage can be administered at 4-day intervals.

Traumeel Injections for Horses
The advantage of using Traumeel injections is the speed of delivery as it does not have to travel first through the digestive track before reaching the site of injury.
Inject subcutaneously into and around the local site of injury. You will need a small syringe and narrow gauge needle (e.g. 22 to 30 gauge.) These type of needles you can get from a local chemist, they are the type diabetics use.
In acute problems use 1 ampule daily. In chronic conditions use 1 ampule 1 to 3 times a week.
When injecting around the injured area, do small papule injections and inoculate 0.5 cc solution into each papule/area.

Traumeel Gel and Ointment (Cream)
Traumeel Gel
The homeopathic gel is easy to apply to horses.
The gel is able to penetrate through their hair to their skin, where it is then absorbed into the surrounding tissues and blood stream. Apply it abundantly, twice a day, on any inflamed/bruised areas and rub in softly, if possible.
If you are treating the hooves, you can massage it around the coronary band and the heel bulbs. It is absorbed well here and possibly better, than on the hoof walls and soles.
Traumeel Ointment (Cream)
The homeopathic ointment is best applied directly onto skin, unlike the gel which is easier to apply over hair. Massage it in gently, to the surrounding area morning and evening, more often if necessary, until symptoms reduce.
Traumeel - Does it Work....
From my personal experience as a Naturopathic practitioner, yes, it certainly does work. I have found that it greatly assists injuries of many kinds. I reckon it can speed up the healing time by at least 50%.
As with all homeopathic remedies, every individual being responds in their own individual way to homeopathic treatment. But as a first aid remedy, I do not know of a better, more effective one, on the market today, that can help such a vast range of first aid conditions quite so effectively.
Because of my above experience over the last 15 years plus, I now always consider recommending and prescribing this homeopathic remedy for any first aid complaints and injuries. You can see from the list above, just how many conditions it can be used for.
Finally - the only difference with using it on horses rather than humans is the dosage.
Additional Tips When Using Traumeel
To increase the effectiveness of this remedy. If you need to apply it to an area which can be bandaged, e.g. horses legs; apply it, then afterwards wrap tinfoil around the area and then bandaged over that to keep the tinfoil in place.
The tinfoil reflects back the heat that is being generated from the surrounding area. This then increases:-
- the local tissue temperature,
- which then causes blood vessel dilation,
- which then leads to increased local circulation,
- leading to increased absorption of the locally applied Traumeel gel
The increased dilation increases circulation and so increased nutrients to the area plus removal of waste. This is especially good on horses legs.
If you don't want to apply tinfoil directly, then apply a thin cotton gauze first, then the tinfoil and finally VetRap (Vet Wrap) bandages. Or even better, buy some Mirotec Tendon Wraps.
To Summarize
The Gel is easier to apply than the Ointment on horses as it penetrates through their hair.
The Tablets can be quicker to give to your horses by hand, rather than the liquid drops, as these need to be diluted in water. But, if for any reason you prefer using the liquid drops then just add them to water or their feed.
Do not forget however with all remedies if the cause of the problem continues, no matter how good the homeopathic remedy is, the complaint will resurface and not get better, if the cause is not alleviated.
